The Golden Eaglets emerged champions of the under-17 World Cup at the United Arab Emirates on Friday after the senior team won the African Cup of Nations in South Africa in January.
This year has been iced with success for Nigerians, you may say...
Mexico threatened the Nigerian goal a couple of times in the first half but found Alampasu in inspired form. Although, the Mexicans gave the Nigerians quite a lot of trouble, this cost Erick Aguirre's own goal, putting the Golden Eaglets in front in Abu Dhabi.
The Mexicans pressed early in the second half but it was Nigeria who doubled their lead when Gudino parried a long range shot into the path of Kelechi Iheanacho, who tapped in for his sixth goal of the tournament.
The Nigerian under-17 team played 7 matches, lose non, drew one and had victories in the remaining 6.
As a result of the victory the Nigerian under-17 team tops the list of teams whom have earned the title the most. Earning the title four times, first in 1985, then 1993, 2007 and 2013.
